Pilates for Neurological Conditions Courses
Want to work with Mariska and Meghann at one of our in-person courses? We offer a 3-day Pilates for Neurological Conditions Course and a 2-Day Advanced Pilates for Neurological Conditions Course in the United States, Europe, and Australia. Both courses are eligible for CEC's through the Pilates Method Alliance. Get course descriptions, schedules, and registration details below.
This 3-day in-person training will help you understand neurological disease and the principles and applications of neuromuscular rehabilitation and neuroplasticity in exercise.
The course covers the multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and stroke disease processes in depth, as well as issues common to many neurological diseases, including balance difficulties, weakness, muscle spasticity and rigidity, bladder problems, and gait abnormalities.
You will learn how to assess causes of balance problems, work with single side weakness to create better muscle balance, diagnose ineffective compensations and help remedy them, how and when to stretch to manage spasticity, and techniques to create “detour circuitry” in the brain and spinal cord to work around existing nervous system damage, and much more.
Since the course covers so many problems common to the average student, you will have tools to work with students of nearly every population, especially the aging, and those with neurological conditions or muscle imbalances.
Our course is recognized with 16 CECs (continuing education credits) from the Pilates Method Alliance. It is an affiliate course for the Women’s Health Pilates Specialist Certificate™ through the Center for Women’s Fitness, and is also offered in Europe through MBodies Training Academy.
A companion 300+ page reference textbook with hundreds of exercises is available for purchase separately (the same book used in the course). The price you pay for the book is credited in its entirety (less shipping and handling) to your course fee if you can take a course in the future (United States only).
In our advanced course you will take a deep dive into working with clients with neurological disorders. You will learn:
• The NeuroRehab Movement principles for neurological conditions
• Exercises based off each principle to be integrated into a rehabilitation session
• Proper cueing and execution of exercises
• How to efficiently organize a session incorporating balance, spasticity and gait
• Effective homework exercises
We will cover pathology, symptoms, and contraindications for multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke. We recommend that you complete the Pilates for Neurological Conditions before taking this advanced course, but is not mandatory. This course is very hands-on, so be prepared to move and practice. You will leave feeling empowered to help your clients to regain some control over their bodies and to alleviate aches and pains. Our course is recognized with 10 CECs (continuing education credits) from the Pilates Method Alliance.
